Christmas Eve dinner in many Italian-American households features only fish—no meat is served. For some families, that means cooking up a feast—specifically, the Feast of the Seven Fishes. Thought to represent the seven sacraments or the seven hills of Rome, the menu usually includes some well-known fish and seafood and some lesser known species, special for the holidays. In this wonderful working waterfront community, it seems only right to celebrate our fishing heritage and share how to make some dishes that highlight our local fish. Monique Coombs, Maine Coast Fisherman’s Association, and LeAnne Grillo will partner to show you how to make some traditional Italian fish dishes. Come learn about our local fisheries and do some cooking and tasting. You don’t need to be Italian to enjoy this hands-on workshop.
