SUMMARY:Meals in a Pinch
DESCRIPTION:Meals in a Pinch runs every other Tuesday and provides four meals to some of our Harpswell neighbors for a variety of reasons. Some are not able to consistently prepare meals because of health\, ability\, or mobility; others have difficulty obtaining food for practical or financial reasons. There is no income qualification–only a recognition that we all need some support at times. Whether an ongoing situation or a temporary need–like after a surgery or illness–Harpswell Aging at Home has meals available. Emergency meals can even be provided on the same day if necessary. SUMMARY:Harpswell ROMEOs: Talking Climate Change
DESCRIPTION:Climate change is one of the world’s most important issues but messaging around the topic has turned many people away. Drawing on almost 20 years of statewide feedback communicating about climate and the environment\, special guest Keith Carson will explain how scientists know for certain that humans are causing the recent warming on our planet. He will also discuss which words\, phrases\, and messages spur action and which send people into their political bunkers. This event is free and includes lunch but registration is required. To register\, contact Tom Mahoney at oldermeneatingout@gmail.com.

SUMMARY:Harpswell Women’s Group: Harpswell’s Working Waterfront
DESCRIPTION:The Harpswell Women’s Social Group welcomes guest speaker Monique Coombs\, Director of Community Programs for the Maine Coast Fishermen’s Association. Come learn how wharves\, co-ops and even backyard docks can count as working waterfront\, why rising property values and gentrification are putting that access at risk\, and what’s specifically changing here in Harpswell. SUMMARY:Sharing Tables
DESCRIPTION:Summer means free fresh produce on Wednesdays thanks to HAH and partners Midcoast Hunger Prevention Program Merrymeeting Gleaners and Harpswell Community Garden. Tables of contributed vegetables are set up each Wednesday from 1-4 pm (or until they run out) through October at Cundy’s Harbor Nazarene and Elijah Kellogg Churches\, and Orr’s Island Library. Please wait til 1 pm to arrive so our volunteers have enough time to get everything out. Anyone can leave vegetables for others as well.
